About Our Wines

We ferment, bottle, and sell our wines on location in Wedowee. The wine is fermented in 52 gallon and 79 gallon steel tanks. Many of the fruits we use are purchased from local area farmers in an effort to keep business right here at home. Each recipe is strictly adhered to and while the fruit may change due to seasonal and weather differences, the recipes are never altered. We are carving our own niche with artisanal wines that are a blend of traditional wine varieties along with new and unique varieties. Check back often for a complete list of our in-stock wines.

About The Owners

Owners Scott and Brooke Bayliss have long dreamed of Lake Wedowee Winery. Many years ago, Scott developed a love for wine making out of what Brooke refers to as “one of his fly by night hobbies”. He spent countless hours in the wine cellar of their home perfecting the perfect bottle of wine to share with friends and family. There was always talk of one day opening a winery, but other career goals made those talks a distant dream. Scott is a Paramedic and has spent his entire professional life in the medical field. Emergency Medical Services has been his passion for most of his life and his love for helping others is what drove that passion. An unfortunate work injury brought his EMS career to an unplanned end and after much thought and prayer, Lake Wedowee Winery was born. Brooke, who grew up in Wedowee, graduated from Randolph County High School and then Jacksonville State University. She has spent her professional life as a banker working locally in Wedowee. She is now Treasury Management Officer and Marketing Director for First Bank of Alabama. “I am excited for us to be a part of the vision I’ve always had for our beautiful little town and I’m excited to watch Scott chase his dreams and build this winery”, “Scott and I love Wedowee and in our vision for this winery, we are creating a setting that you will want to return to time and time again where we hold onto the past history of our little town all while watching it grow and prosper. ” “I can’t wait to see everyone there”, says Brooke. Scott and Brooke reside in Wedowee and are both actively involved in the community.

About Lake Wedowee

Lake Wedowee, also known as R.L. Harris Reservoir, is located in Randolph County, Alabama on the upper part of the Tallapoosa River. We are 90 miles from Atlanta, Georgia and 90 miles from Birmingham, Alabama. The lake was built at one of the last hydro sites in Alabama and has an area of 9,870 acres. It’s water quality makes it one of the most pristine lakes in the Southeast. Fishing brings the most attraction to the lake, but it’s also great for boating, swimming, camping, hiking and more. You have to see it for yourself!

About Wedowee

Wedowee means “old water” in the Muscogean language and takes it’s name from a Creek Indian Chief. It was originally settled in 1830 in the foothills of the Appalachians. Wedowee is the county seat of Randolph County with a population of approximately 800. Throughout time Wedowee has remained a small agricultural community with recent growth coming as a result of Lake Wedowee. The Lake along with Mount Cheaha, Alabama’s highest point, and Talladega Superspeedway attract a large number of visitors to the Wedowee area each year. Located directly on U.S. Highway 431, between Oxford, Alabama and Auburn, Alabama, Wedowee is an easy stop for those travelling through to larger destinations.
